The Jetta initially made its debut in The United States and Canada in 1980. It was offered as either a two-door coupe or a four-door sedan. This design had a different variation called the Volkswagen Fox that was sold just in South Africa. The original United States VW Jetta design was manufactured and sold from 1980 though 1984.
The next generation of VW Jettas proved to be the most effective for Volkswagen and stayed in production from 1985 through 1992. In the United States alone, the VW Jetta outsold the VW Golf by practically half. This is the time when the Jetta saw its peak sales and was named the very popular European vehicle in America. This variation of the VW Jetta was likewise among the very first Volkswagen automobiles to be made in China. The distinction between the first generation of VW Jettas and the 2nd generation remained in the body design as the automobile featured modifications with added large, body-colored bumper covers, low side skirts and side-clad and grille modifications.
